On Oliva: One of the top returning 50 freestylers
in the state. Looking to continue improving after a hugely successful
junior season in which he took fourth place in the 50 free at the Meet
of Champions.
As a Junior (2007-2008): 1st-Team
All-Cape-Atlantic League American Conference and 2nd-Team All-South
Jersey in the 50 free. Took 4th in the state at the Meet of
Champions in the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and 14th in the 100-yard
free (49.34). Qualified 2nd in the 50 free prelims with a 21.69 and
swam a personal best of 49.30 in the 100 free prelims. Anchored
Vineland's 7th-place 200 free relay (1:29.56) in 21.13. Won the 50 free
in every dual meet throughout the season. Took 3rd in the 50m free
(24.81) and 5th in the 100m free (56.90) at the Cape Atlantic
Championships... Also took 2nd in the 50 free (21.93) and 4th in the
100 free (49.56) at the Eastern States Invitational in Long Island,
N.Y... swam personal bests in every event at the 2008 SunKissed
Invitational in Charlotte, N.C., competing with the Vineland YMCA
Seals. Took 5th in the 50 free in 21.73 and 7th in the 100 free in
48.95... 50 free prelim time (21.58) was good enough for 3rd in the Middle Atlantic Region for 15-16-year-olds.
As a sophomore (2006-2007): Took 21st at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in the 50-yard free (22.62)... also placed eighth in the 50-meter free at the CAL Championships on February 7 (25.72).. swam a personal best in the 50 free in the NJSIAA Sectional playoffs vs. Mainland with a time of 25.07 (meters).
